Club Events and Activities

In spite of our youth (or perhaps because of it) we have been jumping feet first into a number or service and fundraising activities.

The initial event, Charter Night, was a big success, held at the Devon Bank at Western and Arthur on June 22, '02. We had many charter members, and officers were present from the sponsoring Edgewater club and Lions International.

Following this, Lion Wahaj and Lion Pam rushed the Peace Poster Contest entries to produce their entries by students. Lion Wahaj had the experience of doing the same activity last year when a member of the Edgewater Club.

Our first Candy Day was organized at breakneck speed. We missed a few opportunities due to inexperience, but had an enjoyable day and collected almost a thousand dollars for our efforts at street corners and stores.

We had the help of some high schoolers from Northside College Prep, shepherded by Lion Soula from Northside Learning Center and Lion Nazir from the Devon Bank. We are now planning our second Candy Day with eagerness!
Last year Lion Vaseem headed up the Sight Night activities, where children collected used eyeglasses for distribution in underdeveloped countries. A number of other Lions are placing eyeglass/hearing aid collection boxes in their businesses.

Many from CRPLC paid close attention to the MERL training at a Regional Meeting at Colletti's, and more of us applauded District Governor Ralph Koller (who is our personal Mentor and good buddy) at a joint meeting with the Edgewater Club earlier this year.

At the District 1-A Convention in April, some of our members found out what FUN Lionism can be at the many entertainment rooms set up by the various clubs. Learning about how to run the club better was the subject of several seminars, and the importance of websites was included.
