Chicago Museum Exhibitors Group

Statement of Purpose

· The purpose of the Chicago Museum Exhibitors Group is to promote the free exchange of information and ideas among people in the Chicago area involved in the development, design and production of museum exhibits. Advancement of the museum exhibit profession in the Chicago area will be promoted through discussion of exhibit related issues, networking, and personal interaction.

· Meetings will be informal and practical. The format of the meetings will be kept flexible, e.g. topic discussions, exhibit viewings, demonstrations, professional workshops, dinner meetings, or social events as determined by group consensus or the member hosting the gathering.

· The regular meeting time will be quarterly on a weekday evening.

· Attendance at the meetings will be open to everyone involved in the exhibit development process, whether they are in an exhibit related business or connected with an institution.

· No local dues will be charged. No formal membership will be required. A mailing list, maintained primarily for the purpose of notifying people of meetings, may be made available to other not-for-profits and educational institutions, but not to commercial interests.

· Expenses will be kept to a minimum. Mailing, copying, and incidental expenses will be rotated among the host institutions. Light refreshments, if desired, will be paid out-of-pocket by the host or covered by nominal contributions from attendees.

· The Group will be guided by a Steering Committee which will assure that meetings are planned, a mailing list is maintained, that announcements get sent out, and that the Group maintains continuity and purpose.
